1. How many homes are currently open and who do they serve? Currently, there are three homes, which serve eighteen with mild to severe developmental disabilities. The goal is to provide a permanent residence to adults within the context of a "home like" atmosphere. 2. What type of work or school activities do the residents engage in? All adults work outside the home in the local community or in educational or vocational training settings. Several young adults have jobs working at local restaurants, schools, and day care centers.
3. Does Marian Homes have a Board of Directors? The current Board of Directors consists of 12 people. Most Board Members have personal experience with individuals with developmental disabilities. Others are professionals in the field of developmental disabilities and representatives of the legal, business and educational community. We welcome professionals in all fields to enhance and propel Marian Homes to future growth.
4. Do you serve only Los Angeles County? Marian Homes serves all of Southern California. Our headquarters is located in Cerritos, California. We currently have two properties in Los Angeles County and one property in Orange County. Marian Homes serves all of Southern California. There are no geographic limits to serving our residents.
5. How are residents selected for the Homes? Regional Center is our primary referral source. We also accept private pay residents.
The three homes have a full time certified ARF Administrator. At some homes there is a live-in direct care staff during the week and a live-in relief staff for the weekends. At other homes, there is a shift work schedule. We provide staffing and care giving for our clients around the clock. A full time Program Director oversees the staff and the activities at the homes. 7. How is Marian Homes financially supported? Marian Homes receives financial support from the State of California through the Regional Centers. While state and federal funds cover basic room and board, they do not meet all of the expenses of operating the homes. This year we received 62% of the operating cost of the home itself through funding from Regional Centers. For the additional 38%, we rely on the generosity of individuals and corporations that support our mission through private donations, fundraisers, and membership drives. Organizations such as the Knights of Columbus, and foundations and cities namely ECHO Northrop Grumman, City of Anaheim, Employees Community Fund of Boeing, William H. Hannon Foundation, and the Fred & June Mac Murray Foundation have been instrumental in our success and growth.
8. How much of Marian Homes funds are used for administration? Approximately 14% of Marian Homes funds are used for general administrative purposes and fund raising. Approximately 86 cents on the dollar goes directly to program services.
